Majilis

Contact Details

Majlis are a team of women lawyers and social workers who work for the protection and promotion of women and children’s rights through legal representation, advocacy and training. They provide social and legal support to women and children victims of sexual and domestic violence.

‘Majlis’ means association in several Asian countries. The name reflects our broad based pluralistic and multicultural ideology. The founder members of Majlis were part of the early women’s movement in Mumbai. The organisation is registered as a Society and Public Trust in 1991.

The Legal Centre of Majlis was founded by Adv. Flavia Agnes, a legal scholar on women’s rights, as a centre for rights discourse and legal initiatives to address issues of women and children facing violence. We have three units.
